I had this thing when I was growing up. My mom loves cheese and always kept a block of cheddar in the fridge…. just sitting there…waiting for someone’s urge to grab a snack to arise. And so…after a long day of school-realted activities, we small folk of the household would cut off a slice of two and…wait for it…dip it in honey. Not sure where we ever got the idea (Food Network did not exist back then, just PBS- which I still love, yea “Baking with Juila!”). But it hit all the craving spots: sweet, salty, and rich. Perfect.
Now, I no longer dunk small blocks of cheese directly into a pool of honey, but a good drizzle over some blue cheese paired with baked apples is my idea of a great fall snack. Served up with some hot apple cinder…. I am ready for the leaves to change and the brisk air of fall to blow in.
- 1 package crescent roll dough
- 2 medium apples, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
- 1/4cup honey
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Unroll dough on a cookie sheet. Seal any holes or seams by pinching dough together.
- Arrange apple slices over dough in a single layer leaving ~ 1/2 inch around all of the edges.
- Sprinkle blue cheese over the apples slices.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until dough golden and cheese has started to brown.
- Drizzle with honey and serve warm.
